Discover town’s maritime history on new harbour tour

Sprats being landed on Brightlingsea Hard

Brightlingsea Harbour has partnered with Brightlingsea Museum to offer an exploration of the town’s rich maritime heritage on foot and on water.

The Historic Land & Sea Tour will be guided by one of Brightlingsea Museum’s knowledgeable volunteers on a trip that will use the foot ferry (picrtured below) to explore the harbour and creek, with a walk around the Waterside area. Headsets will be provided toensure the commentary isn’t missed.

The tour will look at Brightlingsea’s Cinque Port connections, its wartime history, shipbuilding, yachting and associated endeavours, along with more recent events including Brightlingsea Against Live Exports and the town’s involvement with the miners’ strike.

The first two tours are planned for May 21 and June 18, leaving from the Harbour Office at 2.45pm. The cost is £18 per person and bookings can be be made by calling 01206 302200 or emailing [email protected].
