Celebration marks 100 years of Girl Guiding in Brightlingsea

One hundred years of Girl Guiding in Brightlingsea was celebrated at an event to mark the centenary of the 3rd Brightlingsea Guide unit.

The unit was formed in 1924 on March 17, when the first enrolment ceremony took place, and it’s been active ever since. Exactly 100 years later current, former and newly-enrolled guides met at the hut on the Lower Park playing field to mark the occasion.

The event, organised by guiders Karen Nice and Michelle Grimsey, included an extensive display of photographs and memorabilia from the unit’s history and whiich which brought back many happy recollections.

The afternoon also included the enrolment of new guides Lillie, Vivien and Grace and the cutting of a commemorative cake. The afternoon finished with a rousing selection of campfire songs.
