Watch the Women's Tour as it passes Brightlingsea

The Colchester to Clacton stage of the of the Women's Tour – a major international women's cycling event – will see racing take place along the B1027 past Thorrington Cross on Friday, October 8.

The fifth stage of the Tour will see cyclists leave the Northern Gateway Sports Park in Colchester and head for Elmstead Market before taking on two-rounds of a circuit that will start on the B1027 near Wivenhoe Football Club then pass through Thorrington Cross – where Tenpenny Hill will see riders compete for the Queen of the Mountains points – Jaywick, Thorpe-le-Soken, Manningtree and Lawford before finishing on Marine Parade West in Clacton.

A rolling road closure will be in place along much of the route, with Marine Parade West and part of West Road in Clacton closed between 5am and 8pm. Approximate timings are:

  • Northern Gateway Sports Park, Colchester - 11.30am
  • Elmstead Market - 12.00pm
  • Tenpenny Hill - 12.19pm
  • Jaywick Sands - 12.35pm
  • Holland-on-Sea - 12.47pm
  • Mistley - 1.27pm
  • Manningtree - 1.32pm
  • Tenpenny Hill - 1.59pm
  • Marine Parade West, Clacton - 2.20pm

The Tour first visited Clacton in 2014 and returned in 2015. According to the organisers, the 2019 race was worth over £7.5m to the UK economy, attracted 300k roadside spectators and over two million TV viewers. This year The Women’s Tour and British Cycling have teamed up to launch Ride for Heroes which will celebrate Britain’s key workers and community heroes. Each stage start and finish venue will play host to a special ride-out to give spectators their chance to say thank you to the unsung heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic.
