The high tides surrounding the shelter on Brightlingsea Waterside this week reminded us of this ‘spot the difference’ shot from – when? 1900 or so? The Anchor Hotel, now flats, and the shelter look little different today. The street lamp has gone, the road is paved now, and the clock indicating the time of high water has been replaced by a Town Council noticeboard. Could the chap with the peaked cap be the hardmaster? And the girls leaning against the shelter show that this was as popular a meeting place for the town’s youngsters then as now.
