New owners apply for permission to hire out Robinson Road swimming pool

The new owners of a swimming pool in the back garden of a house Robinson Road have applied for permission to hire it out for children’s swimming lessons.

Up until Jethen House changed hands this summer, the indoor pool had been hired out to swimming schools and used as part of beauty spa packages – it’s believed for up around 15 years.

But when new owners Nicole and Matthew Wilby were approached by the Mini Swim Stars and Water Babies schools, it was discovered that the pool did not have planning permission for commercial use.

In a planning application to Tendring District Council, the Wilby’s have asked for permission to hire out the pool for six sessions totalling three hours on four mornings and two late afternoons a week during school term times.

They say there will be a maximum of five swimmers for each session, with the possibility of hiring out the pool to families for a maximum of three one-hour sessions each week throughout the year.

The application says the property has driveway parking for seven vehicles and that neighbours on either side of the property have previously supported the pool’s commercial use.
