Campaign launched to keep Brightlingsea lanes quiet and protected

How Mill Street might look with a Quiet Lane sign

A petition has been started calling for two Brightlingsea lanes to have Quiet Lane and Protected Lane designation.

Started by local resident Claudia Campbell, the petition calls on the Brightlingsea Neighbourhood Plan group to push for the designation of Mill Street and Robinson Road in a bid to protect them for future generations. The Neighbourhood Plan for Brightlingsea gives residents a chance to comment on the future development of the town and the sort of facilities it should have..

“As traffic has increased on these lanes, safety for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders has decreased since the new developments at the top end of Robinson Road,” said Mrs Campbell, who said that attempts had been made over the last four years to gain the designation without success.

Mrs Campbell explained that Quiet Lane designation gives priority to pedestrians and other non-motorised users, while encouraging slower driving. Protected Lane status helps to prevent the loss of trees and hedgerows and to protect wildlife by minimising future development.

The online petition can be found here.
