Some Tendring District Council enforcement staff are to be equipped with body worn cameras to capture evidence of littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping – or during visits by officers to licensed premises, evictions and the like.
The council says the cameras will act as a deterrent against potential attacks and provide evidence in the event of an attack or allegations of improper conduct.
The 26 cameras cost £17,000 and staff are currently being trained to use them. All of the footage captured will be subject to the council’s policies on CCTV, data protection and other relevant legislation.
