Council staff to be equipped with body worn cameras
Some Tendring District Council enforcement staff are to be equipped with body worn cameras to capture evidence of littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping – or during visits by officers to licensed premises, evictions and the like.
The council says the cameras will act as a deterrent against potential attacks and provide evidence in the event of an attack or allegations of improper conduct.
The 26 cameras cost £17,000 and staff are currently being trained to use them. All of the footage captured will be subject to the council's policies on CCTV, data protection and other relevant legislation.
