Offshore wind business Ørsted, which has an operations hub in Brightlingsea, has opened applications for its wind turbine technician apprenticeships for the sixth year running.
The apprenticeship lasts for three-and-a half-years, including a year’s study in either Grimsby or Barrow before taking up placements which will see them working offshore at one of the company’s 12 offshore wind farms.

Since the programme began in 2017, 39 apprentices have been taken on. Last year there were nearly 1,000 applicants.

Rob Howes, Ørsted’s lead apprentice specialist said: “You don’t have to have experience, we’re looking for people with lots of passion, and great teamwork skills. This is a great opportunity for people who want to be involved in the green energy revolution.”

With a minimum age limit of 16 for applicants, there’s no maximum age for people to apply for an apprenticeship with Ørsted. Applicants should have three GSCEs c/4 and above, including maths, English and science or a technical subject.

Upon completion of the programme, apprentices will have gained a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) qualification and will become fully qualified wind turbine technicians.
