Battle of Britain planes to star in Clacton Airshow

A Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Flight

Classic war planes from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s will be amongst the aerial start of Clacton Airshow this year.

The Flight’s Avro Lancaster, Supermarine Spitfire, and Hawker Hurricane are scheduled to attend, along with a Fairey Swordfish flown by the Navy Wings Heritage Flight.

Also unveiled on the flight programme for this year is a Mark XIX Supermarine Spitfire, built as a reconnaissance and meteorological aircraft capable of a top speed of 446mph, with this display sponsored by LocalIQ.

Completing the Second World War flight line-up is a P51 Mustang – still with battle scars from operations across Europe – and a Mark XIX Supermarine Spitfire, built as a reconnaissance and meteorological aircraft capable of a top speed of 446mph.

More recent aircraft will be represented by a MiG-15, painted in Russian colours and operated by the Norwegian Air Force, a De Havilland Vampire FB52 and an ex-Oman Airforce jet BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk82A. Crowd favourite Otto the helicopter – complete with pyrotechnics on the rotors – is returning for twilight displays, joined by two illuminated Piper Cubs that make up the Firebirds and the Tigers Army Parachute Display Team.

The Airshow takes place on August 25 & 26, with twilight flights taking place on Thursday evening, the first day. Radio Airshow from BBC Essex will once again broadcast live from Clacton Airshow on 103.5FM and BBC Sounds. For updates and more information visit www.clactonairshow.com.
