District Council defers holiday park plan discussion

The application to build a holiday development on the edge of Brightlingsea – which was due to be discussed by Tendring District Council's planning committee this evening (Tuesday, June 16) – has been deferred.

The plan for the 81-acre Lower Farm site in Robinson Road – which includes 104 holiday lodges, 36 retirement apartments and a glamping area – was withdrawn late on Monday. A spokesman for Tendring Council confirmed the deferral, but no details were given as to why other than that there was "new information" available. The spokesman added that the plans would have to go out for public consultation again, so would probably not come back before the council for some time.

Brightlingsea resident Susie Jenkins, who is campaigning against the development, said: "It’s a relief the application has been deferred but it hasn’t gone away and is just as important as last time. We will keep raising local awareness and campaigning to protect Lower Farm and Robinson Road."

The directors of the consultants behind the plans, Colchester-based Honace Developments, and the chairman of Tendring Council's planning committee, St Osyth councillor John White, were contacted for a comment but had not replied at the the time of writing.
