Brightlingsea Info reader Pam Gillett managed to catch this little visitor on video.
She identified the bird as a Diamond Dove, a native of the deserts of North and Central Australia – so either it’s flown a very long way or, more likely, escaped from an aviary.
In the wild, they’re a threatened species but can live for up to 25 years in captivity. Though this one is a loner, they’re happier in pairs or groups of around 20.
