Brightlingsea Christmas Tree Festival will go ahead this year

It's been confirmed that one of the town's most popular events, the Brightlingsea Christmas Tree Festival, will go ahead this year over the weekend of December 11 and 12.

The two-day event in All Saints' Church – which features dozens of Christmas trees decorated by local individuals, families and organisations – had to be cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic. This year, with less onerous restrictions on indoor events, the festival committee is planning to revive the event, which has raised tens of thousands of pounds for All Saints' and St James' churches and various charities since it began in 2003.

Moves under consideration to make the event more Covid-safe include ensuring that the public move around the church in one direction, with one door for entry and another for exit, introducing cashless payments, giving people setting up trees a time slot, and having mobile catering outside the building. The Holy Mowers, who look after the churchyard, will be decorating the churchyard with lights and other displays.  The Saturday evening concert – this year with a brass band – and the traditional carol service at the end of the event will still go ahead, but with limited numbers. There will still be music from local musicians during the festival and the park and ride minibus will be back as normal.

The festival's online entry system is now open - click here for details.
