Rotary Club donation ensures disabled cricket will continue in Brightlingsea

A further year of support for disabled cricket in Brightlingsea has been secured thanks to a £1,000 donation from the town’s Rotary Club.

Brightlingsea Cricket Club says the third year of funding from Brightlingsea and District Rotary Club has been fundamental to the growing success of the members of its Disability Section. It has enabled them to train all year round and attend festivals across Essex, as well as host their own on the Bayard Recreation Ground on May 30.

Some members of the section, which includes players with special educational needs and disabilities, have been selected to play for the Essex County team. Last year, Jack Williams and Ed Neale were selected for the Essex squad and this year John Watkinson and Ella Wright have joined them. All are teenagers.

The Rotary Club’s future support could be in doubt, however, as it needs to recruit new members to help with its fund-raising efforts, which also supports other local groups, including the Food Bank, the Lido and various youth groups.

Anyone interested in supporting the work of the Rotary Club should contact Barbara on 07908 566215 and anyone interested in joining the cricket club’s Disability Section should contact Richard on 07464 195852.
