Tendring escapes Tier 3 for the time being

Tendring is one of only three Essex districts not to have been placed in to the Very High Tier 3 level of local Covid-19 restrictions, the Secretary of State for Health has confirmed.
In a statement to the House of Commons today (Monday, 14 December), Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock MP announced that most of Essex, along with London, would be moved up to the Very High (Tier 3) level from  December 16.
Tendring – along with Colchester and Uttlesford districts – will remain in Tier 2 (High) due to their lower rates of Coronavirus. However, the current status will still be reviewed on Wednesday December 16 as part of a national assessment of the situation.
Tendring District Council leader Neil Stock welcomed the news Tendring will stay in Tier 2 for the time being. “Remaining in Tier 2 is good news for our hard hit businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector, and is testament to the good work of our residents, businesses and visitors in terms of following Covid-19 safety measures,” he said. “This good work has been reflected in the figures that we are currently seeing.”
Stock added: “I am extremely pleased that our voice has been heard by the Secretary of State, and I am grateful to our local MPs and Essex County Council for helping me successfully make the case to government that Tendring is not contributing to the rise in cases in our region – and therefore rightly we are being kept in our existing tier, and if we can get the rate down lower we can drop down to Tier 1.”
Information about Tier 2 restrictions can be found on the TDC website.
