Have you ever wondered what Brightlingsea looks like from the top of All Saints’ Church tower?
Wonder no more – because you’ll soon be able to climb all 126 steps on a tour of the newly restored tower, which has just been fitted with a new rope hand rail courtesy of generous donors.
The tower had been closed to the general public for years, but a £541,000 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund paid for stonework and roof repairs that were completed in 2023 and have made the tower safe again.
Apart from stunning views of the sea, River Colne and Alresford Creek, fit and healthy climbers will be able see the ringing chamber and belfry on the way up. A fund-raising campaign to restore the bells will be launched soon.
Tower tours will be available by reservation only, usually once or twice a week, at a cost of £7 per adult and £4.50 for youngsters over eight years old. Certificates will be issued to all those who attempt the climb – whether or not they make it to the top. For more information email [email protected]
