Season’s greetings from Brightlingsea Info

In tune - David & Melanie Bridle

As 2020 draws to a close, it’s a fair bet that most of us will be glad to see the back of it.

It’s been quite a year for Brightlingsea Info, too. Since we relaunched in May, we’ve hosted three events virtually that were unable to take place because of Covid-19 restrictions – Open Gardens, the Friday Arts show and the Christmas Tree Festival. Dozens of you added your Christmas lights to the Lights Trail and your pumpkins to the Pumpkin Trail and we’ve provided a platform that’s generated donations of over £1,000 for St Helena Hospice and £250 for All Saints’ church.

We’ve published over 100 Brightlingsea-related news stories too – articles that we try hard to ensure are fair, accurate and unbiased. Our Town Directory is expanding nicely – have you added your business or club yet? – and though the Brightlingsea Calendar (compiled by Karen Hine) has been put on hold because Covid has put paid to most town events, it will be back once things get back to some sort of normality.

We believe in Brightlingsea and we want it to thrive. We hope that by ensuring residents are better informed about what’s available and what’s happening in the town that will help. You can help us by signing up for our newsletter, liking our Facebook page, and letting us know about your events and anything you think the rest of the town should know about, too. This isn’t our day job. We’re doing it for love, not money – the site is free to use and always will be.

So as we head for an uncertain New Year, we thought a bit of light relief might be in order in the form of our Lockdown Song. It was sent first to members of Brightlingsea Sailing Club, where we usually provide a sing-along after Christmas lunch – cancelled this year like so many others. This year would have been our 24th annual performance.

It just remains to wish you all a very happy Christmas, and a safe new year. Thanks for all your support and we’ll see you with more Brightlingsea Info in 2021.
