Brightlingsea Panto Group is gearing up for its first production in three years with a home-grown script and a cast that’s raring to get back to treading the boards after the pandemic brought the curtain down on its 2021 and 2022 shows.
Auditions have already taken place for the company’s January 2023 production, Aladdin, the latest in over 40 years of panto’s from the group, which was originally formed by members of the junior school PTA. Written by group stalwart Mark Jack, the latest show is described as a family favourite with a 70s twist.
Following a cast meet-and-greet last week, producer Paul Murthwaite said: “After the excitement of Robin Hood in January 2020 no one could have believed what was around the corner. It seems like forever since we were treading the boards, but here we are again.
He added: “It is such an anchor for the wealth of talent in and around Brightlingsea, and to have the opportunity to have such fun with a such a talented group is a gift. I am already excited and inspired by the young, and not quite so young, people who throw themselves in the show with such enthusiasm.
