Early morning queuing for an appointment to see a doctor in Brightlingsea will become a thing of the past when a new online booking system goes live next week.
The introduction of the Anima system at the Colne Medical Practice will also see the end of open surgery in the mornings. In future, all requests to see a GP or nurse practitioner will have to be booked online, though nurse appointments can still be booked direct with reception.
Booking forms submitted by patients will be reviewed by a GP or paramedic who will arrange appointments – which could be on the same day, or up to six weeks later, depending on clinical need. The software will help medics prioritise urgent cases and ensure that patients see the right professional first time.
The platform will be open every day between 7.30am and 4pm, or “until we reach safe capacity for the day”, says the surgery. Consultations may be in person, over the phone or via video link and home visits can be arranged online or by calling reception.
NHS England has mandated use of Anima which is said to streamline access to healthcare services, allow clinics to manage appointments more efficiently and allow healthcare professionals to spend more time on patient care.
Patients can set up an account, but not book, now at https://patients.animahealth.com. For patients who are unable to use the online system, the practice can complete booking forms over the phone or help people to book in the surgery. A digital access support team can be contacted on 01206 587277 and will also be at the Station Road surgery on Thursday December 5 between 9.30am-12.30pm.
