New members join town council after local elections

Brightlingsea Town Council - report commissioned about its governance

Four new members have been elected to Brightlingsea Town Council following the elections for town and district council on May 4.

Independents Dave Atkinson, Chris Paveley, Sue Walsh and Jean Howard won through, as did existing councillors Mick Barry, Ric Morgan, Jayne Chapman, Graham Steady, Mat Court, John Carr, Mick Judson and Bev Maltby.

There were 14 candidates for the 12 available seats. Two sitting councillors – Sim Hawkins and Ben Smith – were not re-elected and two – Graham Chasney and Michael Beckett – stood down at the end of their term.

Appointments to teams and committees are due to be announced at the council’s meeting on Thursday, May 18 at 7pm.
