A new book of Essex mystery tours sets puzzles around 12 of the county’s towns – including Brightlingsea.
Mrs Mentary’s Mystery Tours Essex, written by Dedham-based freelance journalist Cally King, ask readers to solve 15 clues based on local landmarks. In Brightlingsea’s case, this means finding who sabotaged the town’s Easter egg display.
Cally says she wrote the book – her first – because “there are so many beautiful places in Essex that don’t get the recognition they deserve, including Brightlingsea”. The mystery element of the book came about after writing scavenger hunts and word games for her children during lockdown.
The other locations for the mystery tours are Wivenhoe, Manningtree, Frinton on Sea, West Mersea, Coggeshall, Tollesbury, Thaxted, Castle Hedingham, Great Bardfield, Old Harlow and Leigh on Sea. The book is available on Amazon and contains information on places to eat, drink, shop and play in each location, plus a directory of local businesses.
