Independent councillor Jayne Chapman has been chosen as the Mayor of Brightlingsea for the next year, the third time she’s led Brightlingsea Town Council. She takes over from Graham Steady.
Well known in the town as the owner of Spirals in Victoria Place, Mrs Chapman helped to organise the delivery of prescriptions and medicines in the town during the first lockdown last year. She represents the town on Tendring District Council, where she’s the chairman of the Human Resources & Council Tax Committee and leader of the Independent Group. She was chairman of the district council in 2016/17.
Deputy Mayor for the year is Mick Barry, another independent, who has been instrumental in the revival of Brightlingsea Lido and one of the organisers of the Brightlingsea Free Music Festival. Also a district councillor, Mr Barry sits on the Resources and Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee and the Review of the Constitution Portfolio Holder’s Working Party.
