Brightlingsea’s Fiveways store will cease trading under the Co-op banner on on December 29, 2024.
The closure follows its takeover by Sainsburys, which will re-open the store at a later date – currently unconfirmed – in January.
Co-op staff will transfer to Sainsburys under the takeover deal, while the filling station and travel agent will remain as Co-op businesses, with the latter thought to be moving to a new building on the Samsons Road site.
The town’s Station Road Co-op store is unaffected by the takeover.
