Colne Road repairs require new route to the Shipyard Estate

The planned nine-day closure from February 1 of Colne Road in Brightlingsea for major repairs will see changes to the routes taken by heavy goods and other vehicles heading for the Shipyard Estate.

The works, partly necessary because of wear caused to the road by HGV traffic heading to and from the Estate, will see parking banned on the odd-numbered side of New Street and on-way traffice between 8am and 4pm on weekdays so that large vehicles are able to access the Waterside area. When leaving, trucks will be escorted out in hourly convoys by Essex Highways’ staff along Colne Road.

Brightlingsea Town Council has been working closely with Essex County Council to come up with what it says are the most sensible routes for the heavy vehicle movements in and out of the Shipyard Estate during the roadworks. The town council also secured agreement from Tendring District Council to suspend parking charges in several of the town’s car parks.

It’s not envisaged that there will be any restrictions in Sydney Street and Tower Street while the roadworks are taking place and Colne Road will be open as usual at weekends.  While work is taking place, the route to the Shipyard for all vehicles will see traffic turning from Lower Park Road into Station Road, passing along the High Street, turning in to New Street and then along Waterside.

Cones will be placed at pinch points on Station Road to prevent parking during construction hours so that large vehicles and buses can pass. Free parking will be permitted in the car parks on Tower Street, Victoria Place and Oyster Tank Road, with the Community Centre car park also available to residents. The North Essex Parking Partnership will relax restrictions from 8am to 4pm on weekdays, unless parked vehicles present a nuisance or hazard.

If there are any queries regarding the works, call the town council on 01206 303535 or email townclerk@bseatc.org.uk
