A plan to build a special public toilet and changing room in Brightingsea for people whose physical or learning disabilities prevent them from using existing disabled facilities has been approved.
Tendring District Council (TDC) will add the Changing Places unit to the public toilet block on Promenade Way, chosen for its proximity to the beach and disabled parking.
The unit, one of four being built in the district following the award of a government grant, will feature hoists, height-adjustable changing tables and sinks, and shower facilities. It will be open all year round to those with a special key., with access limited to those who need the specialist equipment.
Construction of the new unit, which will be built on the space to the east of the toilets that was once the entrance to the adjacent car park, is expected to begin in the new year.
Anyone wishing to apply for a key can do so on the TDC website.
