Carnival comes to town!

Brightlingsea Carnival takes place this Saturday – June 22 – with a procession and host of events taking place on the Bayard Recreation Ground .

With its theme of movies and theatre, the carnival procession will leave the Regent Road ground at noon on a route taking in Red Barn Rd, Hurst Green, High St, Ladysmith Ave, Seaview Rd, Red Barn Rd and back.

The event takes place on the Bayard Recreation Ground with free entry and will feature stalls, live music, a fun fair and other attractions.

The carnival procession will leave the Regent Road ground at noon on a route taking in Red Barn Rd, Hurst Green, High St, Ladysmith Ave, Seaview Rd, Red Barn Rd and back. Taking pride of place will be Brightlingsea’s carnival queen,  Lexie Newbury, attended by senior princesses Marleigh Cuthbert and Emily Sutton-Bryson, both aged 10, and junior princesses six-year-old Miley-Fox Meredith and eight-year-old Lillia Weaver.

Entry to the recreation ground is free, and the stalls, rides and other attractions will be running from 11am, with arena displays – including a performance by the Britannia Pipes and Drums – taking place from 2pm.

Local sports clubs will also be taking part in a Sports Jamboree from 1.30-3.30pm. There’ll be demonstrations of various sports with activities for all the family to participate in, as well as the chance to meet club mmbers and find out what they have to offer. The clubs taking part are: Brightlingsea Bowling Club; Brightlingsea Cricket Club; Brightlingsea Karate Club; Brightlingsea Regent Football Club; Walking Football; Brightlingsea Rugby Club and the Sledgehammers Basketball Club.
