Essex police made three arrests at the Clacton Airshow after scanning the crowds with new live facial recognition (LFR) technology.
The show saw the first use of the technology, which the service says is used to “find people wanted for serious offences, to help enforce orders against those whose faces are put on a ‘watch list’ and to protect those who are vulnerable and at risk of harm”.
The technology – which can recognise faces even if partially covered – doesn’t retain faces that aren’t on the watch list and deletes them almost immediately.
Arrests at the air show – where crowds were praised by police for their good humour – related to a domestic assault and a common assault.
