Brightlingsea Lido supporters publish anthology
An anthology of work by local writers has been published to mark the 90th anniversary of Brightlingsea Lido.
Dipping Your Toes contains essays, short stories and poems written by friends and supporters of the Lido – which marked its birthday in June. It's been compiled by the Lido's writer in residence, Ruth Loten, whose appointment last year is thought to be the first of its kind in the country.
Ruth has also been the instigator of the 90 Words project, which has seen people writing about their Lido experiences and memories. These are published every Monday on the pool's Facebook and Instagram accounts. Ruth is available to help budding writers and chat about the book in Café Lido on Friday mornings.
From its early days as a sea water pool, the Lido has been transformed into Brightlingsea's top tourist attraction. Threatened with closure in 2017, it was taken over by the community as has gone from strength to strength ever since. Plans for further celebrations include special swim events and ‘90 Make a Splash for the 90th’ involving 90 visitors, young and old ,jumping into the pool simultaneously on the evening of August 10th.
Dipping Your Toes costs £5 and is available from Brightlingsea Lido office, Café Lido and through Amazon direct – mybook.to/BrightLidoAnthology. All profits go towards supporting Brightlingsea Lido.
