Big tide surrounds Bateman's Tower
Where did the land go? A big tide combined with a surge on Monday, November 16 left Brightlingsea's Bateman's Tower – and some intrepid walkers – surrounded by water.
The lunchtime tide – 5.7,m with a 0.2m surge covered the paddling pool, most of St Osyth Stone and a lot of Second Beach. However, the calm conditions meant there was none of the overtopping of the sea wall that resulted in the promenade area flooding earlier this year.
Our thanks to Brightlingsea photographer Colm O'Laoi – who recently won an award for another aerial photograph – for his stunning drone shot.
